Seen fom the shore at Traigh na Mheilan, swimming in the channel between the beach and Scarp. Not the best photo but I was excited to see this for the first time. V v big circa 20 feet, I was not going in the water with it even if it only eats plankton...even if it would take a very short sighted shark to mistake me for plankton. For those who like stats " The basking shark is the second largest fish in the world, second only to another filter feeder, the whale shark. This animal can attain lengths of at least 10 meters (33 feet), but the average size is 7-9 meters. They can weigh up to 4 tons". Impressive!
